Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index ending at a 7.5-month high as technology shares advanced and Turkey's central bank raising its interest rates lifted the market mood.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 273.35 points, or 1.20 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,094.67.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 18.59 points, or 1.09 percent, to finish at 1,728.61.
Electric appliances, machinery, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
