Tokyo stocks open higher on hopes for China-U.S. trade talks

TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight, as investors were optimistic after the resumption of high-level trade talks in Washington between China and the United States.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 168.10 points, or 0.78 percent, from Thursday to 21,720.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.02 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,590.44.

Marine transportation, mining and securities house-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
