Tokyo shares open sharply higher on Wall Street's solid lead

TOKYO, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Monday as investor sentiment was bolstered by U.S. shares advancing late last week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 328.79 points, or 1.71 percent, from Friday to 19,590.79.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.33 points, or 0.87 percent, at 1,433.62.

Marine transportation, electric appliance, glass and ceramic product-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
