Tokyo stocks open higher on oil price rebound, yen's retreat

TOKYO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday tracking gains on Wall Street overnight as oil prices rebounded, while exporters got a boost from the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 233.76 points, or 1.17 percent, from Thursday to 20,148.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.62 points, or 0.80 percent, at 1,458.17.

Mining, warehousing and harbor transportation services, and machinery issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
