TOKYO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday, following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight on optimism about the reopening of the U.S. economy and the wider global economy, as eased virus-linked restrictions are allowing for an uptick in business activities.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 270.51 points, or 1.26 percent, from Wednesday to 21,689.74.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.03 points, or 0.97 percent, at 1,564.50.

Bank, iron and steel and securities house-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
