TOKYO, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as investors opted for profits following the Nikkei's two-day winning streak, with exporters dented by a firm yen against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 84.37 points, or 0.37 percent, from Wednesday to 22,861.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.99 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,586.52.

Pharmaceutical, precision instrument and electric appliance issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
