TOKYO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday following a downbeat lead form Wall Street overnight, with investor sentiment dampened by concerns over rising COVID-19 cases at home and abroad.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 6.38 points, or 0.03 percent, from Thursday to 22,522.91.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.45 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,552.79.

Mining, securities house, and oil and coal product issues led notable decliners in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
