TOKYO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Tuesday as investors bought technology issues following their equivalents' rise on Wall Street overnight on the one hand, with selling pressure coming from a strong yen on the other.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 15.84 points, or 0.07 percent, from Monday to 22,731.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.86 point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,575.83.

Pharmaceutical and electric appliance issues led notable advancers, while air transportation, and electric power and gas issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
