Tokyo stocks open lower on Wall Street's overnight decline, profit-taking

TOKYO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday, following Wall Street's decline overnight, with profit-taking being pervasive following the market's rise the previous day.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 344.02 points, or 1.47 percent, from Thursday to 23,121.51.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 20.56 points, or 1.26 percent, at 1,610.68.

Precision instrument, electric appliance, and information and communication issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning break.
