Tokyo stocks open lower on profit-taking after Nikkei's 30-year closing high

TOKYO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors opted to lock in gains in the final session of the year following the Nikkei adding more than 2 percent the previous day and closing at a 30-year high.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 160.16 points, or 0.58 percent, from Tuesday to 27,407.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 16.59 points, or 0.91 percent, at 1,802.59.

Iron and steel, textile and apparel and mining-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
