Tokyo stocks open marginally higher on hopes for U.S. stimulus

TOKYO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Monday on investor hopes for additional COVID-19-related stimulus to be finalized in the United States.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 15.88 points, or 0.06 percent, from Friday to 26,672.49.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.43 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,779.84.

Precision instrument, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
