Tokyo stocks open higher as U.S. tech issues gain overnight

TOKYO, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday, following a solid lead overnight from the tech-heavy U.S. Nasdaq composite index.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 163.25 points, or 0.57 percent, from Wednesday to 28,619.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 6.56 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,870.96.

Rubber product and securities house-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
