Australian dollar slides further amid wall street tumbles

SYDNEY, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar like other commodity-linked currencies took a hit on Thursday by Wall Street plunge overnight and remained low against U.S. dollar at the near three-week bottom.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 76.67 U.S. cents, down from 77.50 U.S. cents on Wednesday.

The Aussie briefly rose to close 77 U.S. cents mark on Thursday morning after posting the biggest daily loss in three months the previous day.

"The U.S. dollar rose across the board, AUD/USD -1.1 percent to 0.7660," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.

At 09:00 (AEST), the local unit was buying 76.62 U.S. cents.
