TOKYO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday, following losses on Wall Street overnight, as sentiment was dented by an increase in U.S. weekly jobless claims dimming the outlook for the pace of the global economic recovery.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 177.09 points, or 0.59 percent, from Thursday to 30,059.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 11.14 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,930.77.

Mining, air transportation and pharmaceutical issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
