TOKYO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Tuesday as market sentiment was buoyed by U.S. stock indexes reaching record highs overnight, but gains were capped by some investors opting to take profits following the market's five-day winning streak.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 82.23 points, or 0.28 percent, from Monday to 29,849.20.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 3.78 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,972.51.

Information and communication, electric power and gas and electronic appliance issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
