TOKYO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday following a downbeat lead from Wall Street overnight where concerns were renewed over corporate borrowing costs following a rise in long-term U.S. Treasury yields.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 246.02 points, or 0.84 percent, from Tuesday to 29,186.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.21 points, or 0.72 percent, at 1,963.65.

Bank, pulp and paper, and marine transportation issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
