SEOUL, March 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export fell in double digits in the first 10 days of March due to fewer business days, customs office data showed Monday.

Export came to 13.54 billion U.S. dollars in the 10 days, down 13.4 percent compared to the same period of last year, according to Korea Customs Service.

The double-digit fall was mainly attributed to fewer working days. The number of business days declined by 1.5 days in the cited period.

The daily average export increased 8.2 percent in the 10-day period. The monthly outbound shipment kept growing for the fifth straight month through February.

Semiconductor export jumped 21.7 percent in the March 1-10 period, but those for cars, oil products, steel products, auto parts, precision machinery, and home appliances all retreated in double figures.

Import dived 28.6 percent from a year earlier to 14.8 billion dollars in the first 10 days of March, sending the trade deficit to 1.26 billion dollars.
