Tokyo shares edged up Tuesday morning on easing concerns over the economic impact of a strong earthquake hitting northeastern Japan earlier in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 6.41 points, or 0.04 percent, from Monday to 18,112.43.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.88 points, or 0.20 percent, to 1,445.81.
Gainers were led by oil and coal product, mining, and information and communication issues.
