Tokyo shares closed the morning session higher on Wednesday as U.S. stocks climbed overnight on upbeat U.S. gross domestic product data while uncertainties pervade the meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), a 14-member oil-producing group.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 22.87 points, or 0.12 percent, from Tuesday to 18,329.91.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 2.81 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,471.38.

Gainers were led by electric power and gas, securities and construction issues.
