Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday as the Japanese exporters will benefit from U.S. dollar's appreciation against the yen following the U.S. central bank's decision to raise interest rate overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 183.06 points, or 0.95 percent, from Wednesday to 19,436.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 14.02 points, or 0.91 percent, to 1,552.71.

Gainers were led by transportation equipment, marine transportation and insurance issues.
