Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday, tracking losses on Wall Street overnight as geopolitical concerns regarding the rising geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula saw investors here in a cautious mood.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 82.55 points, or 0.41 percent, from Tuesday to 20,247.64.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 10.73 points, or 0.64 percent, to 1,662.01.

Oil and coal product, retail and air transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
