Tokyo stocks open flat,investors take profits after market's winning streak

Tokyo stocks opened flat on Wednesday, with investors opting to lock in gains after the market's recent run of closing highs.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 6.93 points, or 0.03 percent, from Tuesday to 20,816.58.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 1.23 points, or 0.07 percent, to 1,693.91.

Iron and steel, and transportation equipment issues comprised those that declined the most from the morning bell, while air transportation and food issues led gainers.
