Tokyo stocks open higher as U.S. shares rise overnight

TOKYO, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, following U.S. shares advancing overnight led by technology issues on the Nasdaq Composite Index which closed at a record high.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 223.15 points, or 0.99 percent, from Monday to 22,660.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 11.56 points, or 0.73 percent, at 1,590.65.

Transportation equipment, real estate, and warehousing and harbor transportation service issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
