TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday as the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar dented sentiment and sent exporter issues lower.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 84.93 points, or 0.36 percent, from Friday to 23,534.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 3.28 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,644.10.

Rubber product, transportation equipment and bank issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
