TOKYO, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index surging to a 29-year-high, as Democrat Joe Biden declaring victory in the U.S. presidential election settled market nerves over political uncertainty.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 287.48 points, or 1.18 percent, from Friday to 24,612.71.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 13.61 points, or 0.82 percent, at 1,672.10.
