SYDNEY, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar continued to climb and stayed well above 77 U.S. cents level on Wednesday as the commodity gained before the release of China's January Consumer Price Index (CPI).

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 77.38 U.S. cents, up from 77.03 U.S. cents on Tuesday.

The Aussie surged to 77.42 U.S. cents, two weeks high on Wednesday early morning, before hovering around 77.35 level, with additional gain in question.

"The U.S. dollar fell against all G10 and major Asian currencies over the day, extending the weakness of Sydney trade," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.

At 09:00 (AEST), the local unit was buying 77.38 U.S. cents.
