TOKYO, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as technology issues followed their U.S. peers lower overnight after the U.S. Nasdaq composite index lost ground.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 246.62 points, or 0.82 percent, from Monday to 29,909.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.30 points, or 0.74 percent, at 1,924.05.

Pulp and paper, electric appliance and precision instrument issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.

Markets here were closed on Tuesday for a national holiday.
