TOKYO, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Thursday, as the Dow Jones index's record-high finish overnight helped lift the benchmark Nikkei stock index to reclaim the psychologically important 30,000 threshold.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 465.68 points, or 1.57 percent, from Wednesday to 30,137.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 21.69 points, or 1.14 percent, at 1,924.76.

Rubber product, nonferrous metal and mining-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
