Tokyo stocks open sharply lower following Wall Street's tech-led rout

TOKYO, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower Friday, as sentiment was dented by a technology-led rout on Wall Street overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 836.14 points, or 2.77 percent, from Thursday to 29,332.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 39.87 points, or 2.07 percent, at 1,886.36.

Electric appliance, precision instrument and machinery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
