Tokyo stocks open lower amid global trade concerns

TOKYO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower on Monday amid escalating global trade concerns.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 40.98 points, or 0.19 percent, from Friday to 21,217.66. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, was down 2.65 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,543.25.

Real estate, nonferrous metal and land transportation issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
