Tokyo stocks open higher after U.S. jobs data sends Wall Street higher

TOKYO, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday following a positive lead from Wall Street late last week on solid U.S. jobs data.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 96.21 points, or 0.41 percent, from Friday to 23,450.61.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 6.87 points, or 0.40 percent, at 1,720.23.

Oil and coal product, mining, and insurance-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
