TOKYO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Tuesday following a weak lead from Wall Street overnight as investors refrained from making bold moves ahead of policy meetings at central banks in Europe and the U.S. this week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 23.01 points, or 0.10 percent, from Monday to 23,407.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 1.88 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,723.95.

Pulp and paper, oil and coal product, and electric power and gas issues led decliners, while pharmaceutical and farm and fishery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
