TOKYO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed flat Tuesday as investors took a wait-and-see approach ahead of central banks' policy meetings in Europe and the United States this week amid uncertainty about the outlook for the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 20.51 points, or 0.09 percent, from Monday to close the day at 23,410.19.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 1.30 points, or 0.08 percent, to finish at 1,720.77.

Miscellaneous product and pharmaceutical issues led notable gainers, while electric power and gas, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
