Tokyo stocks open marginally higher on Fed's view of U.S. economy

TOKYO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Thursday as the market mood was buoyed by the U.S. Federal Reserve keeping its rates unchanged and giving an upbeat assessment of the country's economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 29.26 points, or 0.13 percent, from Wednesday to 23,421.12.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 1.73 points, or 0.10 percent, at 1,716.68.

Metal product, electric appliance and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
