TOKYO, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as investors bought back issues oversold recently, despite thin trading with many foreign investors away for the Christmas holidays.

As markets opened here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 106.39 points, or 0.45 percent, from Wednesday to 23,889.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.96 points, or 0.40 percent, at 1,728.38.

Marine transportation, precision instrument and securities house-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
