Tokyo stocks open flat on U.S. shares' rise, yen's strength

TOKYO, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened flat Friday as buying on the back of U.S. shares rising overnight was offset by selling on a stronger yen against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 3.68 points, or 0.02 percent, from Thursday to 23,921.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.10 points, or 0.18 percent, at 1,734.30.

Rubber product and food issues comprised notable decliners, while marine transportation, securities house and consumer credit-oriented issues led those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
