Tokyo stocks open higher as BOJ's December Tankan survey improves for 2nd straight quarter

TOKYO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as investor sentiment was bolstered by the Bank of Japan's quarterly Tankan survey showing that large manufacturers' business sentiment improved for a second straight quarter.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 133.50 points, or 0.50 percent, from Friday to 26,786.02.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.54 points, or 0.65 percent, at 1,793.55.

Insurance, machinery and information and communication issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
