Aussie dollar pullback continues ahead of Jan. employment data

SYDNEY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar fell for the second consecutive day and became steady around 77.50 U.S. cents on Thursday ahead of the release of Australia's January employment data.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 77.50 U.S. cents, down from 77.61 U.S. cents on Wednesday.

The Aussie dropped to 77.25 U.S. cents bottom early on Thursday morning before bouncing back to 77.50 level while the greenback continued to strengthen for the day.

"A massive rise in US January retail sales reinforced US dollar gains. AUD/USD outperformed somewhat, steadying around 0.7750," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.

At 09:00 (AEST), the local unit was buying 77.49 U.S. cents.
