Japan's Nikkei edges higher in morning after Wall Street's lead

TOKYO, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark Nikkei stock index rose slightly Monday morning after inheriting a positive lead from Wall Street late last week on eased concerns for the outlook of the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 42.23 points, or 0.18 percent, from Friday to 23,858.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.96 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,731.11.

Pharmaceutical, service and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
